To create a project:

  1. From your dashboard, under “Time Tracking” you’ll find a page titled Projects and Clients. This page shows all active or inactive projects, along with options to create or edit the portfolio.

    • If “Time Tracking” isn’t available, ensure you turn it on from general settings (top left)

    • If “Projects and Clients” isn’t visible, it may not be available on your subscription plan - reach out to support to give it a test drive.

  1. If you’re just getting started, click the blue “Create New” button at the top right. This will open your project creation menu.

  2. Create your project!

    • Assign a name to the project

    • (Optional) Describe the project. This won’t be visible in Slack or Teams selection menus, but will be visible to anyone with read/edit permissions for projects

    • (Optional) If this project is exclusive to a client and you’d like to tag time across multiple clients, select a client from the menu or click “Create new client”

    • Click “skip” when you’re ready to move on

  1. Configure project assignment:

    • Choose between self assign or managed assign: Managed assignment requires admin right to create and assign all projects, while self assign gives read permissions to all team members, along with the ability to assign oneself to any given project.

    • Select the employee(s) you want this project to be assigned to. You can choose a name from the employee name dropdown, select everyone from a department, or select everyone from your organization.

  1. To finish, click “Create Project”.

To create a task (sub-project) within an existing project:

  1. Open a project by clicking circular arrow icon at the bottom right of the project tile

  2. Click on “Sub Projects” tab at the top

  1. Click “Create New”

  2. Name and (optionally) describe the sub-project, as you would a new project

  3. Assign employees to the sub-project - by default all employees assigned to the overlying project will be assigned, but you can add or remove employees as needed.

  4. Click “Create Sub Project” when ready

And finally, to create a client:

  1. Go to the “Clients” tab of the “Project and Clients” page.

  1. Click “Create New”

  2. Name the Client and assign an hourly rate - this rate will auto-calculate billables (read more) in reporting.

  3. That’s it! Once created, you can click back into the client to upload a client logo

Final notes:

  • While projects and sub-projects can be assigned to specific employees, clients cannot. This means any client is always available from tracking menus, though underlying client projects may still be hidden or accessible per employee.

  • Billable rates can only be set for clients, however employee wages will be included in project reporting, and are configurable from employee profiles.
